Appalachian Mountain Bear Tallow Salve

$20.00

Description

Bear fat, when rendered into creamy white tallow, is very healing for skin and tissues, all on its own!  But when combined with fragrant, healing pine rosin, the soothing, softening skin benefits really shine!

Black bear fat is sustainably harvested from the mountains of Western North Carolina.  A limited number of animals are culled to keep the population abundant and healthy.  Tallow is rendered the old fashioned way, by slowly heating the fat and ladling off the drippings.  It is a tedious process, keeping the fat from burning, yet rendering the most abundant, rich bear tallow.  Studies show that bear tallow is extremely medicinal, healing cuts, scrapes, and abrasions.  It has very little scent.

Pine rosin is harvested from cuts or wounds in the white pine trees in Appalachia.  The rosin is painstakingly harvested with basic utensils, a butter knife and a soup can!  It is a laborious process, going from tree to tree in a pine grove.  But the woodsy fragrance is so natural, and pine rosin is antiseptic, cleansing, and healing to the skin.

Raw beeswax is melted down, filtering out the debris and left as natural as possible for the wonderfully fragrant aroma of fresh beeswax.  This is also healing to the skin.

When these three natural products are combined, it makes an incredible healing salve.

2 ounce screw closure tin for backpacking, to keep in your car, or anywhere you might need a soothing balm for skin.

Fragrance is only pine rosin and beeswax.  No essential oil is used.
